8 essentials for your summer wardrobe 2023
Summer is wonderfully uncomplicated when it comes to men's wardrobes. You can actually survive the season with relatively few items of clothing if you choose them carefully.
There are many reasons why some of us prefer summer to winter. The weather almost goes without saying, but summer wins in other ways too: More and more people are going on vacation, your email inbox is getting emptier, and suddenly you're standing there with a packed vacation bag and the prospect of a few weeks of relaxation.
And let's imagine that you overslept and only have an hour to pack your essentials into your travel backpack - what should you prioritize?
Here are our suggestions!
4 great tops
Poloshirt
A polo shirt is the structured, well-dressed cousin of the T-shirt, with a steady job and a family life. You can even throw on a polo shirt with colorful swim trunks. You'll instantly look like you're attending a casual business meeting somewhere in the city.
This makes the polo shirt one of the most versatile pieces of clothing. It has the uncanny ability to pair with everything from shorts to classic dress pants.
Overshirt
Although technically a shirt, the overshirt is much more than just a top. Its lightweight design makes it the perfect alternative to a jacket in the summer. Wear it with shorts or chinos, making it a must-have for your vacation suitcase.
Sweatshirt or Hoodie
Especially ideal for warmer summer evenings, when visiting friends at their holiday home or meeting up for a beer by the hedge. Here you can choose whether you want a hoodie or a sweatshirt.
The hoodie is by definition synonymous with leisure, but ultimately, it can be worn with almost anything. Pair it with performance shorts if you want to break up your casual look a bit. If you choose a plain sweatshirt, you can wear it with both trousers and shorts without it looking too casual.
Short-sleeved shirts
The short-sleeved shirt is a staple every season, and we'd definitely pack it if we only had to pack eight items for the rest of the summer. Whether patterned, white, or striped, they all go well with both trousers and shorts. If you want to go all out with your summer look, choose a lapel collar shirt.

Chino-Shorts
Again, the main argument for packing chino shorts in your suitcase is that you can pair them with almost any outfit without them looking out of place. Pair chino shorts with a neatly ironed shirt and a pair of leather sneakers, and you're ready for a business lunch at one of the city's finer lunch restaurants. Or pair them with a loose T-shirt and a pair of sandals, and you're ready for a summer garden party.
Swim shorts
Without a doubt! If you can only pack one pair of swim shorts this summer, it's a good idea to choose a pair that isn't too bright in color or pattern. Instead, opt for solid, dark swim shorts with pockets. This way, you can dress naturally at a lunchtime restaurant if you suddenly feel like it on a day at the beach.
Chinos
If the polo is the structured cousin of the T-shirt, then chinos are the responsible big brother of jeans. They're also great for summer, as they're often a bit airier than jeans, and you don't have to be particularly brave to slip into a pair of green, white, or navy chinos.
Performance Shorts
Or performance pants. It depends on where you're going on vacation and how warm the weather is expected to be. What performance shorts and performance pants have in common is that they're very comfortable and look great at the same time. You get both comfort and a stylish look, which is often difficult to achieve with shorts.
