The Ultimate Guide to Men's Jeans
Find the perfect jeans for your figure
Is there one that fits everyone?
No. That's the short answer, but Jesper would still go so far as to say that there is a fit that, with minor adjustments, suits almost all men: "There's a model we call tapered fit. I'd say that 9 out of 10 men can actually wear this type of jeans.
They have a kind of carrot shape, meaning they're cut completely normally at the top but taper off a bit at the bottom. They just fit really well - whether you're the type who works out several times a week or the type who eats cake."
Tapered fit jeans are suitable not only for a wide range of body types, but also for different age groups.
The Slim Type
If you're a slim type, it's best to avoid wide-legged jeans with a loose fit. They're simply too loose, which can give the impression that you're still a little too young. Jesper, on the other hand, recommends skinny jeans: "This can look good on a slim man because it gives him a striking silhouette. If he wants to look a bit more modern, he can wear it with a loose T-shirt, shirt, or sweater.
The sporty
You generally fall into this category if you run or do strength training a few times a week, giving you a nice, muscular butt and strong thighs.
"Typically, this guy chooses loose-fit jeans. These jeans fit well around the butt and thighs. The problem, however, is that they're usually too wide at the bottom.
You have to be at least 185 cm tall, otherwise you quickly look short and angular," explains Jesper. "So my recommendation would again be tapered fit jeans."
The Muscular Man
We're dealing with a man who likes steaks, protein powder, and energy drinks before and after lifting weights in the gym.
"Men who lift a lot of weights are often characterized by a broad upper and lower body. Here, however, I would recommend a loose fit. This is a model that maintains the broad silhouette of the muscular man right at the bottom. And it looks good."
Wide hips
The first thing to avoid are skinny jeans. They can look unintentionally awkward, says Jesper.
"My recommendation would usually be regular fit jeans. Find a pair with a higher waist so the jeans don't ride down and reveal that 'bricklayer's cleavage,'" he says. At the same time, high-waisted jeans help men with wide hips create a good synergy from the hips down.
Wide Waist
"A classic mistake is that if you have a wide waist, you automatically opt for a loose fit. You think you need enough freedom of movement. But unless you're 190 cm tall, you can end up looking a bit too bulky," says Jesper.
"The fit is extremely important here. I would recommend a tapered fit. It shouldn't be too tight, but still a bit slim. This gives the man with a wide waist a nice silhouette."
